00:00 Hello and welcome to the week six announcements video for CC410 in fall 2026. So this week you should be wrapping up the debugging, logging, and lambda expressions part of the class. You’ll be doing an example around that. And then finally you’ll be turning in the third restaurant milestone and also scheduling your second final project check-in with me sometime over Zoom in the next week or two.

00:25 So after that, this week we’re going to change gears a little bit, and we’re going to start working on design patterns. Design patterns, I think, are one of the most useful things we teach in this class. They’re basically reusable ways that you can build code that are recognizable to other programmers, and they also solve really common problems. So you’ll work on that. You’ll do another restaurant milestone to include some design patterns. And then you’re also going to take the first concept quiz in this class.

00:49 So like I talked about in milestone four, you’re going to add some new classes. One of them is an order class that allows you to combine items together into a single order for a customer. You’ll also make a combo class so that you can create a combo meal that has an entree, a side, and a drink in it. You’ll make a combo builder class that will help build some of those pre-formatted combos for us. And then you also make a special class called an order number singleton class that you’ll use in the order class to keep track of the order numbers and make sure that they don’t repeat. We’re going to build all the classes in this milestone. And then in the next milestone, we’ll actually build unit tests using some test double methods. So that’ll be in the next milestone.

01:24 Other big thing going on in this class is we’re going to have our first concept quiz. This concept quiz, it has a two-hour time limit. It’s kind of like an exam, but I don’t treat it quite like an exam. It’s really just there to check your understanding of theory and code comprehension. It is open book and open notes, but it is closed AI. Please do not use AI to answer these questions. This is really just my way of checking that you understand some of these things and to kind of dig into some of the topics that we’ve worked on in this class so far.

01:49 So other than that, looking ahead, like I said, next module, we’ll be doing test doubles where we actually write unit tests for our design patterns. And then after that, we’re going to switch to working on a graphical user interface for our program so that you can actually build an order kiosk where people can make an order. And then eventually toward the end of the class, we’ll be working on web APIs and some other topics. So hopefully things are strumming along. We’re about at the halfway point of the semester. This is week six of 16. So we’ve got a couple more weeks before we get there, but hopefully things are going well. And as always, if you have questions, let me know. Otherwise, good luck.
